Stressful
US Soldier (Current Employee) - Fort Bragg, NC - February 23, 2021
Great for single people who like having no life outside the military. Leadership varies from company to company so pray your CO is chill. There is opportunity to advance if you are good at PT.
Pros
Long lunch breaks
Cons
No life

Great for seeing different cultures and values
Public Affairs Specialist (Former Employee) - Fort Shafter, HI - February 23, 2021
Working for the Army is a great place to learn about different cultures and values because of the travel and diversity. You’ll deal with a lot if bureaucratic red tape and unnecessary junk, but it’s finite, and at the end if you’re mindful of the experience value, you’ll come out more worldly and possibly be more mature and ready to take advantage of your earned education opportunities.
Pros
Worldly experience, education benefits
Cons
away from family, bureaucracy, egos of underachievers

Great benifits but the hours are horrible.
Aircraft Mechanic (Former Employee) - DE - February 23, 2021
the balance between job and home life is the only drawback. That and possible death. they put the job first and if you have kids, its probably not the career for you.
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
getting shot at

its always field time and rotation
91B Mechanic (Former Employee) - Fort irwin - February 22, 2021
Loved being in the Army until I got to Fort Irwin where everyone seems depressed due to isolation and volume of work and leadership that doesnt recognized their soldiers. Did I mention that if youre high speed youre going to end up doing all the work while the shitbags get away with it with no repurcussion.
Pros
benefits
Cons
Fort Irwin as a mechanic doesnt get any love

Army is slowly going down the drain.
Information Technology Specialist (Former Employee) - Fort Bragg, NC - February 22, 2021
Do you like getting injured? Do you like 12 hour days and constantly being told you're a peice of trash, regardless of being a darn good soldier? Well have I got the opportunity for you! As long as you drink the kool-aid, run fast, and shoot good you will go far in the Army! Regardles of leadership style, these are the only things that matter to your chain. Because afterall, camaraderie is gone in the Army, and you are just a number to your CO and 1SG.
Pros
Free certifications like SEC+ A+ Fiber etc if you can do the training.
Cons
Nothing is free even if they say it is, you pay for it some how, toxic leadership across the bvoard, good NCOs are a rare thing, and none are ever willingn to go to bat for you even if you're an S tier soldier.

Great leadership experience, but don't expect a 9-5 work/life balance
Soldier (Former Employee) - Fort Bragg, NC - February 22, 2021
Gained a lot of experience with leadership and managing different types of people. Never intended to make it a career so it was good for what it was. Experienced things that most will never have the opportunity to. For some, if you take advantage of all the resources, experience, and benefits at your disposal, you could have a rewarding career/experience and even set yourself up for a great life outside of the military. However, it's a serious commitment and not for everyone. So think very hard before you sign that dotted line and pledge yourself to a life of service.
Pros
camaraderie, mission driven, education benefits, health benefits, leadership experience
Cons
some bad leaders, incompetence, micro-managing, slow-moving

Altered the course of my life
Enlisted Service Member (Former Employee) - Fort Benning, GA - February 22, 2021
To anyone on the fence regarding joining the Army (or military, in general) - DO IT! Whether it's for a short enlistment or a career, do it. Your life should be changed for the better. If it isn't, the life experiences themselves will make it worth it.
Pros
mission-oriented, camaraderie, esprit de corps, emphasis on holistic fitness
Cons
work-life balance gets out of whack, challenging for families

Theres good and bad everywhere
Supply Chain/Logistics Manager (Former Employee) - Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA - February 22, 2021
Its all about what you make of it. The people to your left and right make it worth it A Command team can and will make or break a unit with people doing anything they can to stay or actually getting out to avoid bad leadership.

Life long friendships
Petroleum Supply Specialist (92F) (Former Employee) - Fort Lewis, WA - February 21, 2021
I served for 8 and half years. I gain so much knowledge and was able to travel to different countries. I appreciate everything the Army offered and the benefits extend as you transition to being a veteran. Because of the Army, I was able to buy my first home at 30, get paid for going to school and secure a government job that I have been at for over five years now. I still talk to a lot of the people I served with. The only negative that I have is that it is hard when you are a single parent. Sometimes they expect for you to forget you have a child. I am not saying that it is impossible, because I did it, but it is difficult. This was part of the reason I got out.
Pros
benefits, job security, etc
Cons
single parents are not supported as much (depending on leadership), multiple deployments (depending on MOS)

Poor Leadership isn’t excusable and I do not think it was worth it.
Combat Medic (Current Employee) - US Army - February 19, 2021
My honest opinion of this is that I feel like I have necessarily wasted the last four years of my life to pursue debt-free college. I have never in my life been surrounded by such amazing individuals, while also being surrounded by people who I can’t even believe graduated high school. The problem with the inept individuals that I speak of tend to be the most senior leadership you will come to know. I have learned an incredible amount and have received some of the best training that could be given, but it came at the price of being in constant state of pain and depression. I would not recommend this, but I do think that those who have served and are still serving should be gratified by the public for their valor. If you are thinking about joining the military straight after high school please experience at least one year of being an adult first. It morphs your perspective on a lot of the idiocy that can come from higher in your command and allows you to realize that there is much better options than this. College is not for everyone and that’s cool, but seek out at least some other type of profession before trying out this one. You will either come to love your experience or regret it, and I think it’s very clear what I have done.
Pros
30 days of paid time off per year, free healthcare, regular exercise, free 4 years of college
Cons
Incredibly long, futile hours, Look up what a connex is, Look up what TRADOC is (your recruiter won’t mention it), Health and Welfare inspections, Hearing Loss, Poor Leadership, poor living conditions, toxic work environment

Travel is great…
Senior Quality Assurance Inspector (Current Employee) - Fort Campbell, KY - February 19, 2021
The traveling is awesome, the issue lies with those in charge. Senior can seem a little over zealous sometimes. But it is something that is manageable due the the outstanding benefits and training.
