Sandwich Artist/Cashier (Former Employee) - Maize, KS - October 20, 2017
Great job for a kid still in high school. Management works with your schedule. It is quick paced and some stores are "not busy enough" for two people working at a time. So it can get pretty stressful when its almost closing time but customers are still coming in.

Great flexibility, little to no training for things, fun familial work attitude.
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - Harrisburg, OR - March 3, 2021
I had a lot of fun and became good friends with a lot of my co-workers. There was some drama, but that's to be expected when there was a lot of teens working part-time there. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, though they would often throw people into positions unprepared, and the if you got a raise, you were lucky. Only really had one or maybe two shift leaders at a time. The manager tried hard to make it feel like a good environment, but there was always an air of being a cog in a machine, lurking in the background. Felt like the owner didn't care about employees unless they were excelling.
Pros
Free 6-inch for each shift, great atmosphere, flexible hours.
Cons
Minimum wage, no steady or guarantied amount of hours.

Horrible Job
Subway Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Houston, TX - March 3, 2021
The management overall in this store is horrible. I do not feel safe working in my store since it has been robbed a couple of times. I would have to work by myself even if it's a busy day. I get paid almost the minimum and I have been working with subway for 5 years. We wouldn't receive enough supplies and due to that, we would have to deal with customers' frustration and anger. I would not recommend anyone to work with subway!
Pros
nothing
Cons
management, horrible safety, salary

A job for kids & kids only !
Manager (Former Employee) - St. Peters, MO - March 3, 2021
If your a kid sure great job but for adults or anyone with kids It's horrible. There is no growth/promotion. There is no raises...U can work there for 3 gets like I did & ur still getting paid the same amount of money as when u started(which wasn't s a joke/slap in the face) no matter how good of a job your doing, how reliable you are & how long you've been there. Almost impossible to ever ask for a day off or leave early for emergencies. The schedule is different every week & u eathor work those shifts are your fired & that's not up for debate.
Pros
Good starter job for kids
Cons
Horrible pay & employees are treated horrible.

Horrible management
Sandwhich Artist (Former Employee) - Toledo, OH - March 2, 2021
Horrible management, low pay, no benefits at all. Managers can do whatever they please/call off whenever they want and don’t have to have a replacement but you can’t call off or you will be written up

Enjoyed my time there
Sandwich artist/shift supervisor (Former Employee) - Kalispell, MT - March 2, 2021
I worked for the subway in Walmart and the one by Home Depot. Totally enjoyed working there and loved most of my coworkers. Both managers were complete sweethearts even though they could become stressed out when other employees slacked. Kind of understandable. Fun environment for the most part and loved working with most customers. Loved smelling the fresh baked breads miss that some days. There were times things could get stressful but if you showed up on time and did the job somewhere during the day the stress would iron out. Hated some of my coworkers work ethics and how they blamed that on the managers. Not the managers responsibility to get you to work on time or cover shifts just because you decided you didn’t want to work that day but somehow when the manager finally got through with giving them chances and hours were cut and given to faithful employees they always wanted to complain but that’s any job I guess. Like any job it’s going to be what you put into it. Oh and the owner is a gem.
Pros
Free lunch, fun environment
Cons
No benefits

Asked to work off the clock
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Lakeland, FL - March 1, 2021
Not a good place to work, asked to work off the clock numerous times. Not enough people on a shift, next shift always angry because you cannot get the prep done. 2 people for a lunch with a line out the door is not enough

Meet new people
Sandwich Artist/Prep (Former Employee) - Union, MS - March 1, 2021
Management on a power trip and treats employees like slaves. They won’t do what they expect employees to do. You only get a promotion if you know someone.
Pros
Discount on food
Cons
Short breaks, bad management, owners breath stinks bad and he gets in your face a lot

Not a good place to work
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Appleton, WI - February 28, 2021
Applied for full time got 20 hours a week at best, non consistent schedule, manager gives all hours set in stone to favored employees and fills in the gaps with the rest, also would take others hours for personal things like being behind on bills
Pros
Free food would be a pro if it was good
Cons
Everything

Subway
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Stockton, CA - February 28, 2021
Was a decent first job but not a career. The specific location I was at would’ve been ideal had it not been robbed twice in the first year I was there, there was no security at all.

Endless you want your life to Subway 24-7.
Manager (Former Employee) - Manchester, NH - February 28, 2021
No discount on food. No breaks. Always short staffed. Need to use personal phone for company inventory and orders. And personal car to do bank runs with no reimbursement from the company. Need to do stupid courses to make subs. Really it’s a sub.
Pros
None
Cons
You have to pay for your food at full price. No discounts for employees

Easiest job I've ever had.
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Norfolk, VA - February 28, 2021
The job itself is great, hours weren't too long no more than 4-5 hour shifts. After every shift my manager would let us make a footlong to go home with and he would let us eat cookies that got messed up when there were not customers. The only problem is we didn't really have breaks we would just sit down when customers didn't come in which wasn't that often.
Pros
Great Tips, Easy Job, Nice Coworkers
Cons
Prepping food, No breaks

4 hours a week!
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Bremerton, WA - February 28, 2021
Overall, I got 4 hours a week maybe 8 sometimes. What they didn’t schedule me in hours I earned a little bit of tips but it just wasn’t enough to stay.
Pros
Free water cup.
Cons
No hours, poor management, lack of work.

Good place as a starting job/ flexible hours
Sandwich Artist/Cashier (Former Employee) - San Pedro, CA - February 27, 2021
Its a good place to start when getting into the work field. Its pretty easy once you learn all your formulas. You have to learn to keep a decent speed because it does tend to get busy during promotions or depending on location. Pay is okay and flexible hours.
Pros
Discounted lunches/ reasonable pay
Cons
Dealing with rude customers

Not bad for a part time job
Clerk (Former Employee) - Orange County, CA - February 27, 2021
It was a good job for me being straight out of high school. I actually enjoyed working on Sundays there. It was very laid back. The management was far from the best but, it was still a decent first job (clerk/"sandwich artist").
Pros
50% off meals, chill coworkers, engaging work.
Cons
Poor management, low pay, understafffed
