HEB selected this as a representative review
A typical day for me at HEB spans many different systems and even groups.
I was hired as a Sharepoint Developer, but have since branched out to helping with Tibco, PeopleSoft, SalesForce and even into helping business users understand how technology can help them
Pros
good culture, great people
Cons
extremely busy
Good place to work for a college student. Flexible hours and good pay for the job you're doing. Management is the same as any grocery/fast food company (i.e. Terrible)
Pros
Great pay for the type of work you're doing.
Cons
Management sucks, Not what I would consider a career.
A great place to work. I love many aspects of my job; however, compensation and workload are not in balance. While HEB pays better than most, HEB can definitely afford to pay their partners better.
Pros
Vacation
Cons
Dumb managers, compensation is not fair
Awesome place to work. Great people to work with. Good benefits and friendly customers. Good benefits and great upward mobility. Management is understanding and works with you on any issues you have.
I worked at the warehouse my first year working for HEB and it was a terrible experience. The supervisors don't care about the order selectors, a lot of broken equipment, 50 hour scheduled work weeks. I transferred to the store and it is a completely opposite experience. Supportive work environment, flexible schedule.
The job is not bad although the hours are very demanding. I was just driving essentially a forklift and gathered orders to stack on a pallet so they could be shipped to HEB stores.
Pros
Paid Lunch Break
Cons
long hours
working at night is very challenging due to several factors. For example, working and trying to maintain yourself awake during the night is very difficult. You will need a lot of energy drinks in order to stay up all night. Another factor is that sometimes they will under schedule staff and you would have to complete the work.
Pros
pay
Cons
less hours
Very fast paced. as an order selector primary goal is to get the assignments out as fast as you can. maintaining a productivity of 95%. You either work regional side or centralized side. come in at 530am till finish or 630am till finish. the hardest part of the job is maintaining a 95% productivity rate through out the day.
Pros
4 day work week
Cons
very physical work
Working at H-E-B has been a great pleasure and it is easy to connect with taking pride in the work without agonizing over your next paycheck. That being said, the work culture depends too heavily on your relationships with those in influence, and often times politics takes precedent over the right decisions for the business, promotions, etc. Growth opportunities within the position were abundant and expectations are lined out exactly, but four out of five times there is anxiety to protect yourself. Policies and rules can be used against you when they were never made available to read and are niches in a line item fifteen mouse clicks in the company website. Ambitious employees looking to move up and quickly can expect a waiting line around the block for the opportunities available when you are better off taking your packed resume with companies looking to hire. Most places have a clear divide between salaried and hourly employees, so much as eating in separate places, which only deepens the canyon between the two.
Pros
Break Policy, Income, Growth Opportunities within position
Cons
Communication (Or lack thereof), Management/Leadership Politics
The manager is really cool. Hours can be cut on slower days. Not a bad place to work. A typical day would be just either be doing curbie or your a picker.
Pros
Don't really have to talk to customers when you're out picking
Cons
Every department hates curbside
Good pay the people are good your first weeks are tough but if you can get threw it you will have no problem the work can be rough but a good career choice
Cons
Short breaks
As with all retail jobs your life revolves around the job. If your full time there is no flexibility to your schedule without them asking you if your going part time. There are advancement opportunities if your soul focus is advancing in the company. Scheduling could be improved so you know your schedule more than two days before it starts, makes planning family outing difficult.
Pros
Good pay and benefits
Cons
No flexibility for Full time Partners.
Management is always willing to help and it’s a friendly fun atmosphere. Plenty of room for growth and positive experience. Discounts on groceries and big focus on creating a positive customer experience.
Pros
Family atmosphere, pay, benefits
Cons
Fast paced, lots of multitasking
Overall it’s a really great place to work, the pay is good, management is pretty reasonable and they do a good job training you for your role. The biggest problem, and why I ended up leaving is that they tend to over hire. So there’s a limited amount of hours and a lot of you competing for them, it can make it really difficult to cover your bills. Other than that it’s a good work environment and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s good with part time work.
Pros
Good work environment, good company culture
Cons
Limited hours
Good job, the shifts are not too long. They work with your schedule well and also pay good. You get good benefits and the workers are very friendly. Loved my experience at HEB.
Pros
Paid breaks, good pay
Cons
No cona
I absolutely love working for such a great company. They will work with you on just about Everything. Great pay flexible hours. Great people. It is harder to be full time though. Also get good discounts on food.
Pros
Great pay great people
Cons
Hard to get full time.
It's a good company to work for but your happiness depends on which store you work at. Overall i like working at HEB and would recommend asking employees at the specific store you're applying if they are happy with the management, training and if there are plenty of hours there
Pros
Raise every six months.
Cons
Only get benefits if you're full time, It's hard to get full-time, But it depends on which store you work at weather you can get good hours and training, Some stores (management) are better than others, little training in some departments
My experience started off well, but then COVID hit, a couple of weeks into my stint there. It was more hectic than ever, and I didn't feel I had adequate training (plus the accompanying health risks working at a grocery store...) so I left. Manager was nice though, pay was good. Definitely would've worked out under different circumstances.
